Wine is a beverage obtained by the alcoholic fermentation if the grapes. There are a lot of types of wine, and they can be classified after their color (white, red and rosé), after their alcohol percentage, after their sugar content. Wine has a very long history that dates back about 6,000 years ago and it is believed to be original from the region of Iran. In Europe it appeared about 4,500 years ago, in the region of Bulgaria and Greece and used to be a very common beverage from ancient times until now.

The wine is a very famous type of drink that is included nowadays in the European and Mediterranean cuisine, not just as an alcoholic drink, but it is also used for cooking different types of dishes.



But wine is also important for health and is commonly used as an alternative medication. The medical world has acknowledged in time the benefits of the moderate wine consumption. In ancient Greece, Hypocrites recommended wine for the lowering of fever, as a disinfectant and as a supplementary nutrient. The first book written about wine and health was that of a French doctor’s and it spoke about the miraculous properties of wine. He even suggested that it is better to drink wine that water, due to its septic qualities.

Two centuries later, the American National health Institute wrote a health treaty on cardiovascular problems in which the American doctors demonstrated that wine, drunk in limited quantity reduces with 50 percent the risk of heart stroke.

In the south of France, people eat a lot of high cholesterol products, like cheese, eggs, meat and a lot of fat food. In spite of these, there are very few people that suffer from cardiovascular disease because they use to drink a glass of wine almost at every meal.



Sometimes wine can be used in weight loss diets due to its inexistent content of fats and fibers and because it has a large energetic value. It is also used as a digestive. The most suitable wine to be drunk during diets is the white wine because of the very low content of calories.

It has been demonstrated that red wine prevents cancer and has a very high percentage of antioxidants and stops the bad effect of the free radicals. Another component that is to be found only in red wine, black grapes and forest berries is the one named quercetine. This substance is believed to increase the body’s response to bad influences, which means that it raises its immunity. Quercetine lengthens by 80 percent the life of the body cells, stimulates the heart muscle and helps it work properly.

So you can drink wine, it is good for your health.

There are a lot of health magazines on the market that can help you find alternative treatments for minor affections that you suffer at some point of your life, like acne, dry skin, hair loss and so on. If you analyze a few of them you will observe that the advice given is quite the same and that the topics they approach are pretty similar.

Many of them offer diet tips and tricks, but you have to be very careful with that because you can not keep one than one diet at a time. The tendency is to try a diet plan, and if it is not working for let’s say, three days , to drop it and then try a new one. There is no easier way to ruin your body balance that this one. It’s like a car that you fill with gas and than with diesel, and again with gas, and then diesel. You will ruin your stomach, and you will surely not lose any weight, because your body will not understand the whole procedure and will enter stand by mode, keeping its resources (in this case fat tissue) well hidden. These diets seriously affect your body’s balance because they are all based on the lack of some particular type of food.



There are two types of diets that you will generally find in the health magazines. The first one is diversified, but the food you are allowed to eat is in very small quantities and it usually lacks meat, they recommend that you eat the fruits and vegetables boiled because they are easier to digest and you have to eat a lot of low fat yogurt. This is the good one, that doesn’t keep you starving all day eating apples for a week. The other one is based on eating the same thing for a week or so. You can imagine the stress you put your body through when you force it to survive on the same type of food for several days… Generally, this nonsense diets lead only to health problems. You don’t lose that much weight in a few days, what you lose is health and a lot of vitamins that are essential for your well being. Usually people do have a lack in vitamin A, in Iron or in Calcium, but after a harsh diet like this surely you will have more problems.



Very important are the food habits you are ready to develop after finishing the diet. So ok, you have eaten less for a week, mostly salads and low fat yogurt. But what will happen after that? If you start eating as much as before your whole effort would have been in vain, because in a couple of weeks you will have exactly the same weight as you did before, maybe even more.

Exercise is the hidden secret of longevity. Health and fitness go hand in hand and it has been proved that people that do half an hour of exercise every day are more healthy and are better at their job. You may even say that sports make you more intelligent, because your brain gets more oxygen than if you are staying at home all the time and watch TV. Even if you were never a sports person and you never used to run or play with a ball as a kid, you might consider starting practicing sports as an adult.

Even if you go to the gym, run in the park or do a set of exercises at home, in time you will have a beautiful healthy body and a younger spirit. If you go to the gym you might consider the possibility of hiring a personal coach for the first months that can help you develop a health and fitness plan. He will show you the exercises, teach you to do them correctly, because sometimes, if you are doing them wrong is worse than not doing them at all. I refer here  to people that have some health problems which might aggravate if they do particular exercises (back bone problems, ankle or knee problems etc). He or she will also advise you with the food diet you are supposed to keep, because most of the trainers that work in gyms have some knowledge of nutrition principles.



Jogging in the park is the one thing that is accessible to anyone. You just need a pair of sneakers and a t-shirt and you are ready and well equipped for this adventure. I am pretty sure that no one will exaggerate in practicing jogging , so the only advice that I have for you is to run in the morning or in the evening, when the sun heat is not that powerful. If you don’t mind this aspect you might get heatstroke, and that will keep you away fro the park for a few days.

Another sport which is very good for one’s health is swimming. It is not as cheap as jogging and only suitable for those who can swim (I am ashamed, but I do not), but is indeed a sport that will keep you in very good physical shape. It requires you to move very muscle in your body, so it is very good for those that do not have time to spend two hours a day in the gym, training different body parts.



If you are shy and you would prefer privacy during your exercises you can train from the comfort of your home. This is usually done with the help of a DVD that will give you instructions.

General Health

The term of general health refers to the state of welfare of all our body parts. I really doubt that we are totally and completely healthy at any point of our lives. There are many problems that can affect our body balance and we sometimes coexist with different germs or viruses without even knowing that they are there. for example, how long is it possible to have a decayed tooth and not even know it? A lot of time, months, maybe even years. But when we find out it is in most cases too late ant the tooth or the molar may not be saved any more, so you would have to replace it with an artificial one.

This is why we need to do routine check-ups, in order to see what is the stage of our general health. The example with the decayed tooth is not an unique one, and it can be applied to almost every organ in our body. The best thing is to make an appointment with a specialist every time you feel something is wrong. It may be a false alarm, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.



The health of an organ deteriorates in time, and you might get used to the symptoms so, if you don’t go to the doctor right away it may be too late for you. Let’s say that you have a stomachache. It started a few weeks ago, but you neglected it, because you have a busy period at work (you don’t even get enough time to eat), and you believe that is because of the fact that your first and only meal of the day is at dinner time and of course, you are a little tired these days. You are wrong!!!

If you would make an appointment to the doctor you would find out that these are the first signs of gastritis, caused by stress, hard work and bad food habits, and that they can very fast lead to ulcer, which is really hard to cure (in fact, you might never treat it). If you reach the stage in which you have ulcer, you can be sure that you will live a nightmare. You will have to take pills, drink tea that has a horrible taste and you will have to be permanently on a diet, you will not be allowed to eat anything you want.



At first, you will not listen to the doctor’s advice about the very strict regime you will have to keep, but after a few food eccentricities (normal food, but against the doctor’s recommendation) that will keep you up all night you will be sorry to not have visited the doctor at the right time.

Some of the problems when trying to start a diet is the common habit of having snacks several times a day, between the major meals. These snacks can be sweets or sandwiches and they are the worst enemies of a slim figure. It may not seem very much to eat two or three snacks between the meals, but if you count the calories you will be astonished by the quantity of junk food that you eat every day? But what if we found some healthy snack recipes that will allow us to lose weight and stick to our snacking habits.

Personally I am a sucker for sandwiches, all types and sizes with lots of mayo and green salad. They say that the name of sandwich came from John Montagu, Earl of Sandwich, that used to eat meat or steak between two slices of bread. However he was not the inventor of this kind of food, it was already present before the 17th century. Now how can we transform this generally unhealthy, fatty dish into something harmless?



This type of food’s consumption has grown a lot in the past few years, and more and more people prefer eating a sandwich that having soup or eating cereals with milk. This means an increase in the consumption of bread, processed meat (salami, bacon, sausages) and all sorts of synthetic sauces which contain a large amount of salt ant other things very bad for our health. Since we started feeding our children with sandwiches from a very early age we should try and develop some healthy snack recipes which will help us feed them natural products and healthy food. For example, instead of the fluffy white bread that contains a lot of stabilizers we have to make our sandwiches with black bread, or better with bread that contains a mix of different seeds: rye, barley or graham.  It is healthier and satiable, it will make you feel like you have eaten much more, when, in fact you have eaten less.



You can also replace salami and bacon with bits of  chicken breast or grilled low fat meat, or even fish. It is easier to digest, and , due to its simple preparation more healthy than the other alternatives. You can also add cheese to the whole recipe, it has lots of vitamins that come from the milk it is made of and a lot of calcium that we all lack.

Regarding the sauce that we use every day, whether it is ketchup or some other kind of  dressing, we should replace it with yogurt mixed with small pieces of pickled cucumbers or even with home made mayonnaise. This might be your recipe for a healthy snack. And I bet it tastes great!

What does it mean to be mentally healthy?

The routine activities always seem to be in our lives. A more serious problem, though, is that some categories of people are harder to handle. It is very hard to define the respective identities or to judge them. The man imagines a good part of the social life and at the same time the one represented by love and hate. To be mentally healthy means to see through the reflections that life gives you, believe that somebody protects you. Not many people see the connections between life and happiness as the ones which keep us alive. This may be due to the fact that many are too busy to think or to feel.

Each one of us have to contribute to the important fact of what is going in the world. Circumstances gradually bring us the idea of community and that was an important step to accommodate to life. Accommodation means to be mentally healthy. If we could put the clock back and start off again we would probably go crazy. We still have the power to choose so the health sometimes is a matter of choice. Holding people together and the prospects for new relationships are an optimistic future. Many of us review our life instantaneously and there are regrets for the past and hopes for the future. To be mentally healthy is like having a source of joy.

Business and pleasure, crying and hug somebody, reading or exploring, singing or acting, becoming all the time somebody else, taking care of somebody or being in love, these facts are totally beautiful. Begin to listen with your head and discover the beauty in the world. People that are not mentally healthy often feel sad and hopeless. Defects occur in these states and the story that ends neither happily nor unhappily, in other words, doesn't end. The poets write so beautiful that they live forever in the heart of the reader. Many of them are not mentally healthy but their mind is beautiful.



And just because nobody yet realizes how important is the mind with or without being healthy, we should not remain in the shadows.The idea of heaven relaxes our mind and give us the belief that something good exists for us. When all the hopes are erased from your mind nothing is there anymore and you start to feel sick from the inside. That happens without a healthy mind and spirit.



Hopefully in the future we will not suffer so much and continue with out lives close to God and close to our loved ones. To watch your own life is like claiming for a great condition. It is natural to feel sometimes disappointed but cherish all the things around you, in every second of your life. Seek the truth. Seek your identity. Seek love and don't let go. Seek knowledge and follow your path. Seek the signs that God sends you. Seek whatever makes you happy. Seek the change and the peoples change. Seek. Don't stop hoping.

Health care is a general term used in medicine and day to day life that can express either the fact that you are getting treatment for some kind of illness, or the fact that you take care of you and your health.

The first meaning is used in medicine, and we say that doctors and nurses work in the health care department. In the last decades, health care has extended its meaning and needs and know includes a lot of private and public services, as well as production and research, and it goes hand in hand with economy and politics.

The reason why they all melt together in the medical system is that you can not separate them. Doctors and nurses work in hospitals and hospitals are backed up by the government from public money. This requires a very well organized health care system, otherwise the money collected from the citizens might waste and that would bring down the whole system.



There are a lot of business sectors included in the health care system, such as the health care equipment (this includes the manufacturer of the medical equipment and the pharmaceutical products used along with it), the drug manufacturers of drugs and the companies that deliver, them, the hospitals with the doctors, nurses, the administrative personnel, and the students that learn there, the nursing homes, and last, but not least, the scientists that work in the research area, the ones that made all this possible. The medical research, generally named clinical trials, is in fact the quest for new treatments that would cure disease which today have no treatment procedures. It is a very long and hard work, one that sometimes has no happy ending. Let’s take cancer for example: they have been trying to develop a cure for this fatal disease for a long time, but still have not found a treatment that can be successful in all situations. We can not even spot it from the very beginning when it is perhaps easier to cure than in the last stages when you can not do anything more for the patient.



There has been done a lot of research and a lot of progress has been done, but we have not found the final answer. And it may take years from now until we will find the cure for cancer. This is why a health care system is crucial, because it has to sustain a field that may appear useless and money wasting at the first glimpse for those which do not know its importance.

This kind of progress takes a lot of time and is done step by step, but the implications it has on the whole humanity are huge.

Maintaining A Healthy Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight has been an important issue in the last years, and there were a lot of debates around this subjects. Some people prefer to eat as much as they like and whatever they like and then keep a diet for one or two weeks, that will get them to a normal weight in a short time. Others prefer to eat regularly and rationally, and not starve for a couple of weeks just to get into last summer’s bathing suit.

Maintaining a healthy life , just like maintaining a healthy weight should not be a very hard job if you eat healthy and exercise regularly. Acting like this will lower your chances of getting ill and represents the path to the figure that you have always wished for.

Low fat food and low calorie food include a lot of fruits and vegetables. By eating lots of fruits and vegetables instead of  fatty snacks and sweets will help you maintain easy a healthy weight. This has to be paired with a lot of physical exercise, which should be a part of your daily schedule. A lot of people go for a walk, jog in the park or exercise one hour daily at the gym. Each of us is different, that is why we should choose the thing that makes us feel more comfortable.



Here are some health tips for you:

-         keep a diary. Try to write down everything you do and eat every day. This will give you the chance to analyze you daily food habits and will help you realize if there is a problem or not. Try to be honest, you are the only one that reads that diary anyway. You should try and do this for a whole week.

-         Choose a goal that you want to achieve. For example, this week you wand to get rid of the mayonnaise and ketchup you use to eat every day at breakfast together with your salami sandwich. Try to cut them out for good, because they are not healthy and they fatten a lot due to their high salt content.



-         Make sure you get used to making healthy food choices. This should be a routine by now. Try and cook at home your own meals, eat as little as possible in fast foods and restaurants, and if you have to eat out choose low calorie menus, like salads, soups and boiled meat with a vegetable side dish.

-         Be proud of what you have achieved by now. At first it will be very hard for you, especially if you used to be a burger fan, but you will soon get used to your new life style.

-         Make a compromise now if you want to have a long healthy life. Don’t consider it a sacrifice because you will profit from it later.

Heart Healthy Tips

The heart is the most important organ of the circulatory system and is situated in the upper part of the body. The human heart is about 15 centimeters long, has a diameter of about 12 centimeters and can weight about 300 grams, pear shaped and oriented to the left side of the chest. It has four chambers, two superior chambers called atria, and two inferior chambers called ventricles.

The heart is a muscular organ which pumps the blood to the entire body. The heart, the blood and the blood vessels make the circulatory system which is responsible for distributing oxygen and nutritious substances to the entire body and for cleaning it from carbonate dioxide and other residual substances. It has to work without pausing because all the tissues in the body, especially the brain, depend on the oxygen it carries along with blood. The heart is made from muscular tissue which contracts regularly pushing blood to all the parts of the human body. If you live, let’s say, for 76 years, you will have about 2,8 milliard heartbeats, and your heart will pump 169 million of blood liters.



Most of the organs only use one third of the oxygen carried by blood, whereas the heart uses three quarters. This proves the amount of effort that the heart is doing, pumping blood through the blood vessels every second of our lives. This means that you have to keep it in a very good shape and spare it as much as possible. Some heart healthy tips are exercise, a healthy diet, no smoking and a low alcohol consumption.

The health of your heart depends on a very high percentage on the quality of the food that you eat. You should eat daily fruit and vegetables and fresh fruit juice when you feel like eating something sweet. Try and eat as little salt as possible. This means that it is best to eat home baked food, because the semi-processed food you find at the market has a lot of salt and. Use more spices when you cook and you will not feel the lack of salt anymore.



A good heart healthy tip is eating low fat meat, leaving aside canned and smoked meat, give up pickles and olives. And you should replace mustard, ketchup and barbecue sauce with Soya sauce. This means extra effort for the cook, but it is worth it if you can escape heart problems, which are very delicate and very hard to cure. And once you get used o this king of diet, you will find it very tasty, too. You will soon choose the healthy food yourself while shopping at the supermarket. There is an old saying, better safe than sorry, that can very easy describe this.
