Some of the problems when trying to start a diet is the common habit of having snacks several times a day, between the major meals. These snacks can be sweets or sandwiches and they are the worst enemies of a slim figure. It may not seem very much to eat two or three snacks between the meals, but if you count the calories you will be astonished by the quantity of junk food that you eat every day? But what if we found some healthy snack recipes that will allow us to lose weight and stick to our snacking habits.

Personally I am a sucker for sandwiches, all types and sizes with lots of mayo and green salad. They say that the name of sandwich came from John Montagu, Earl of Sandwich, that used to eat meat or steak between two slices of bread. However he was not the inventor of this kind of food, it was already present before the 17th century. Now how can we transform this generally unhealthy, fatty dish into something harmless?



This type of food’s consumption has grown a lot in the past few years, and more and more people prefer eating a sandwich that having soup or eating cereals with milk. This means an increase in the consumption of bread, processed meat (salami, bacon, sausages) and all sorts of synthetic sauces which contain a large amount of salt ant other things very bad for our health. Since we started feeding our children with sandwiches from a very early age we should try and develop some healthy snack recipes which will help us feed them natural products and healthy food. For example, instead of the fluffy white bread that contains a lot of stabilizers we have to make our sandwiches with black bread, or better with bread that contains a mix of different seeds: rye, barley or graham.  It is healthier and satiable, it will make you feel like you have eaten much more, when, in fact you have eaten less.



You can also replace salami and bacon with bits of  chicken breast or grilled low fat meat, or even fish. It is easier to digest, and , due to its simple preparation more healthy than the other alternatives. You can also add cheese to the whole recipe, it has lots of vitamins that come from the milk it is made of and a lot of calcium that we all lack.

Regarding the sauce that we use every day, whether it is ketchup or some other kind of  dressing, we should replace it with yogurt mixed with small pieces of pickled cucumbers or even with home made mayonnaise. This might be your recipe for a healthy snack. And I bet it tastes great!

Healthy Weight

Health problems are one of the major concerns of our generation and many of the problems that we have are linked with the weight problems which can be responsible for many health problems . A healthy weight can be gained in time with a healthy life style, with healthy food, with regular exercises and in this way there can eliminated many health problems . Healthy weight is usually gained and maintained through a healthy daily diet and this means that we should now what types of recipes we should cook for us . In this article there will be presented some healthy recipes that can be cooked very easy and will be very good for your weight .

One recipe is the Manhattan crab chowder ; the ingredients for it are : 2 spoons olive oil, 1 cup sliced onion, 1 cup cored fennel bulb and some chopped fronds, 2 spoons minced garlic, 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning , salt to taste, ½ teaspoon freshly ground pepper, 1 can reduced sodium chicken broth, 1 and 1//2 cups water, 2 cups precooked potatoes cut in pieces, 2 cups crushed tomatoes, ½ kg crabmeat pasteurized .


First step is to heat the oil in a pan and then you can add the onion, diced fennel, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper and cook them for circa 10 minutes or till the vegetables start to have a golden brown color . Then you can add in the potatoes, the water and the broth . Mix them well and let the mixture to get to a boil point and then you can let the heat to low and you let it cook for another 5 minutes . Then add the tomatoes, crabmeat and the fennel fronds . Let it boil again and they you can remove it from the heat and serve it .

Other recipe is the five spice roasted duck breasts . For it you need : 1 kg boneless duck breast, 1 teaspoons five spice powder, salt to taste, 2 oranges, sets and juice, 2 teaspoons honey, 1 spoons reduced sodium soy sauce, ¼ teaspoon cornstarch and make sure to solve it in one teaspoons water . First of all preheat the oven . Then take the duck breasts, trim them well and make three cuts in the skin of each breast and add on all the sides the salt and the five spices powder . Than take them and place then in a pan and cook them until the fat is melted and the skin is golden brown for circa 10 minutes . And the transfer the duck to a plate but do not let the fat in the pan . Then add the duck to a pan and transfer them to the oven . Then roast the duck for circa 15 minutes . After that, place the pan n the heat and add the orange juice and honey, Than add the orange zest and soy sauce.

Because of all the campaigns that have been carried out in the last period of time against unhealthy food and junk food that is found all over the market, there appeared numerous ways in which to present a lot of free healthy recipes. There are many such TV shows, magazines and also on the internet there are plenty web sites and also books which present many healthy recipes that are also extremely easy to prepare and also they are extremely tasty .


The first recipe is the golden baked pork cutlets and for it you need the ingredients : ½ kg pork tenderloin trimmed, ½ cup dry breadcrumbs, whole wheat, 1 teaspoons sugar, ½ teaspoon paprika, 1 onion minced, salt to taste, 4 teaspoons canola oil, 1 egg white beaten, 4 teaspoon cornstarch . First thing you should do is to preheat the oven and take a baking sheet and coat it very well with cooking spray. Then with a sharp knife take the pork tenderloin and cut it into 4 long slices and thin. In a bowl add the breadcrumbs, sugar, paprika, onion, salt and mix them very well .

After they are well combined start to add some oil and mix them very well till the mixture is well smooth. In another bowl beat the egg white and then on the pork slices add cornstarch and then coat with pat on both sides . After that you take each piece of pork and you dredge it through egg and then in the mixture that we have already made on the both sides . Then take a pan in which you place the  baking sheet that you have prepared, then you place the prepared pork slices on it and afterwards you let them bake for about 15 minutes till they are no longer pink in the middle.

The other recipe is Bolognese bean and for it you need the ingredients : 1 can salad beans, rinsed, 2 spoons olive oil, 1 onion not too large chopped, ½ cup chopped carrot, ¼ cup chopped celery, little salt to taste, 4 cloves garlic minced, 1 bay leaf, ½ cup white wine, 1 can diced tomatoes, ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley, 8 whole wheat fettuccine, ½ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese . First of all take a pot and fill it with water and let it boil, then add ½ cup beans in a bowl and mash them . In a saucepan heat some oil and add carrot, onion, celery, salt and cover it . Let it cook till all is soft for about 10 minutes. Then you can add garlic and bay leaf and cook it a little more.

Than add the wine and cook it till is evaporated . Then let it cook till all is thick and add in it the remaining whole beans for a couple of minutes . Then add the pasta in the water and cook the pasta for circa 10 minutes and drain them . In bowls add the pasta and add the sauce on top and the parmesan cheese .
