Chocolate Bad For You Health

Published on Jun 17 2010, in the categories: Facts

This is a debate that has been going on for some time now. Is chocolate bad for your health? Some of you will give a quick and prompt reply: no. These are probably the chocolate junkies that cannot admit that something that tastes so good and is so comforting, can cause any harm to one’s health.

Now come on! Who provides comfort after a painful break up and melts in your mouth making you forget all about your cheating ex-boyfriend? Is it not the unhealthy chocolate? Then how can something so good for you, be in fact bad? Chocolate represents women´s favorite ¨ comfort food¨.

On the other side we will find the chocolate challengers, who just as quick as chocolate junkies will enumerate at least five of the threats represented by chocolate: obesity, headaches, heart problems, lower bone density, jumpiness, bad teeth and so on. The truth is in fact somewhere between the middle, with the balance more inclined to the chocolate challengers.

It mostly depends on the quantity and type of chocolate we eat and on our ability to stop at a certain point. Chocolate does not creat physical addiction, it is more the fact that you get attached to the good feeling it provides while eating it.

Chocolate contains sugar. If consumed in excess, it will lead to obesity or overweight. So the problem with obesity is not really chocolate, but the amount of chocolate we eat .An over-weight person once complained that chocolate hurts his joints. I would be more inclined to argue that it was really the over-weight factor that hurt his joints and not chocolate. In the old days, chocolate was considered a delicacy and it was very hard to obtain. Thus, when acquired, it was served only on special days and by squares.

Nobody ate a whole bar of chocolate, just one or maybe two squares. Nowadays, chocolate bars are on the top first shell of supermarkets and local stores. Their positioning represents good drug pushers. So, the conclusion is that indeed, if consumed in excess, chocolate can be very bad to your health causing obesity and from that all kind of other health problems.

Chocolate also contains caffeine which seems to put your body into stress and represents an aging drug. Muscle testing and kinesiology show that many health problems are partly caused by toxins from chocolate. It can also cause lower bone density and can trigger headaches in migraine sufferers.

There is however a chocolate that specialists agreed upon being quite good for one´s health. That is dark chocolate that contains antioxidants which are good for your health. Also, cacao, the source of chocolate, contains antibacterial agents against tooth decay. Chocolate increases antioxidant levels in the blood and contains phenyl ethylamine, which is a mild mood elevator.

So, whether chocolate is bad for your health or not, is actually up to you. You decide if you want to stay healthy and enjoy a delicacy once in a while or became an emotional junkie and damage your health.
