Eating For A Healthy Liver

The liver is a vital organ for our body. We cannot live without the liver and the functions it fulfils in our body. It is necessary for our survival because of these important functions: production of biochemicals that are needed for digestion, detoxification, protein synthesis, decomposition of red blood cells and hormone production.

It is the only internal human organ that is capable of natural regeneration of lost tissue. So much as 25 percent of the liver is more than sufficient for its’ natural regeneration. The liver’s capacity to regenerate has been known since ancient times and there were all sorts of Greek myths surrounding the regeneration of the liver.

As you have seen, the liver is an important organ of our body; one that we cannot live without. Its’ job is to keep us healthy and alive. The question is what we can do for the liver. How can we protect this organ from outside interventions? Specialist say that we can help keep our liver healthy by eating healthy food, food that will enable the liver to remain healthy. But how can eating for a healthy liver be done? Do we have to eat something in particular or stay away from certain foods? Is it difficult to keep our liver healthy? There are two categories of foods we should eat in order to maintain our liver healthy: those whose protect our liver, the antioxidants, and those that can help with the detoxification process of the liver. Vegetables, especially carrots and beets, contain a high level of Beta Carotene, which is very good in the detoxification process of the liver. Garlic and onions are very good as they have in their composition a sulphur compound that is good for an effective detoxification. In order to prevent liver failure we should consume less and less stimulants such as coffee, and give up completely on smoking and drinking alcohol. We should drink daily at least 2 l of water and help our liver in the process of detoxification of our body. Eating for a healthy liver can be quite easy. You just have to follow these simple guidelines.

Vegetables and fruits are known to contain vitamins and minerals, which are a source of health for our body. Eating for a healthy liver is no different from eating for a healthy body. We should consume plenty of foods containing carbohydrates, vitamins, iron, magnesium, flavonoids, antioxidants, vitamin C, and vitamin E. Try and Drink daily freshly squeezed lemon juice added into hot water. It helps you clean the liver and allows a better detoxification. If you are ill, take as little antibiotics as possible. They can destroy the bacteria that eliminate the toxins. Go for a walk every day, go swimming or cycling, it will do many good to your liver and help with the detoxification process of your body.
