The liver is a vital organ for our body. We cannot live without the liver and the functions it fulfils in our body. It is necessary for our survival because of these important functions: production of biochemicals that are needed for digestion, detoxification, protein synthesis, decomposition of red blood cells and hormone production.
<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->
It is the only internal human organ that is capable of natural regeneration of lost tissue. So much as 25 percent of the liver is more than sufficient for its’ natural regeneration. The liver’s capacity to regenerate has been known since ancient times and there were all sorts of Greek myths surrounding the regeneration of the liver.

As you have seen, the liver is an important organ of our body; one that we cannot live without. Its’ job is to keep us healthy and alive. The question is what we can do for the liver. How can we protect this organ from outside interventions? Specialist say that we can help keep our liver healthy by eating healthy food, food that will enable the liver to remain healthy. But how can eating for a healthy liver be done? Do we have to eat something in particular or stay away from certain foods? Is it difficult to keep our liver healthy? We will find out in the lines to come.

There are two categories of foods we should eat in order to maintain our liver healthy: those whose protect our liver, the antioxidants, and those that can help with the detoxification process of the liver. Vegetables, especially carrots and beets, contain a high level of Beta Carotene, which is very good in the detoxification process of the liver. Garlic and onions are very good as they have in their composition a sulphur compound that is good for an effective detoxification. In order to prevent liver failure we should consume less and less stimulants such as coffee, and give up completely on smoking and drinking alcohol. We should drink daily at least 2 l of water and help our liver in the process of detoxification of our body. Eating for a healthy liver can be quite easy. You just have to follow these simple guidelines.

Vegetables and fruits are known to contain vitamins and minerals, which are a source of health for our body. Eating for a healthy liver is no different from eating for a healthy body. We should consume plenty of foods containing carbohydrates, vitamins, iron, magnesium, flavonoids, antioxidants, vitamin C, and vitamin E. Try and Drink daily freshly squeezed lemon juice added into hot water. It helps you clean the liver and allows a better detoxification. If you are ill, take as little antibiotics as possible. They can destroy the bacteria that eliminate the toxins. Go for a walk every day, go swimming or cycling, it will do many good to your liver and help with the detoxification process of your body.

I am not a big fan of rice. I do not know why but its’ taste never seemed too appealing to me. My mother kept telling me that it is a healthy food to eat, but if I could avoid it, I must surely did so. Until a couple of years ago, when I decided to keep a weight-loss diet in order to lose a few pounds for a friend’s wedding.
<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->
The diet included rice and I had to follow it exactly so that it would work. Therefore, I did. I got used to the taste of rice and with its’ presence in my daily meals and today not two days go by without me eating some rice. Eating rice is healthy. Now I know that is true. I feel much better both physically and mentally.

Rice is in fact the seed of a monocot plant called Oryza Sativa. It is the second grain in the world to be produced after maize. It is particularly popular in Asia, the Middle East, West Indies and Latin America. It serves both culinary and health benefits.

Rice was originally domesticated in Asia in the region of the Yangtze River valley and it suffered a rapid expansion in the Southeast Asia and in India and Pakistan. It was brought to Europe in the tenth century by the Moors and to the United States in 1694 in the region of South Carolina. Today, major rice producing countries are China, Japan, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Pakistan, Cambodia and Bangladesh with China owning 92 percent of the rice production worldwide.

Old Chinese wise men always said that eating rice is healthy. I do not know if indeed they knew the exact health benefits that rice provides but the point is they were right. I guess that is why they were called wise; they were always right about things.

Rice is used with high-blood pressure patients because of its low sodium percentage. It is the most recommended food for people suffering from hypertension and high-blood pressure. There are two categories of rice: the white rice and the whole grain rice. The whole grain rice is healthier and has higher nutritional values because it is not processed.

Rice represents a great source of energy and helps the brain to function normally. It contains carbohydrates, which provide the body with a lot of energy and it is a rich source of vitamins, minerals, iron, and fiber. It is also recommended in diets and in daily eating habits because of their lack of cholesterol or harmful fats. Researchers have also recommended whole grain rice on a daily basis because it is though they can protect the body against cancer due to the presence of insoluble fiber in their composition. Rice is also used for skin care, especially rice water that is recommended as an ointment for skin inflammations.

Eggs represent one of my favorite foods. I am not joking. Boiled, scrambled, fried, pickled, in whatever way they are cooked they have always represented one tasty course for me to eat. If you let me, I could eat scrambled eggs every morning as funny as it may sound it is my number one food choice.
<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->
Eating eggs health benefits are nowadays well known to most people and we have started eating eggs not only for their tasty flavor but also for the benefits they bring to our health. It is one of the ways though which we could “mix business with pleasure” if I may say so.

But what are exactly eggs and where did they first came to use? Eggs are an oval shaped cell laid by different species of females. The eggs we eat are mostly chicken eggs, turkey eggs and duck eggs. They are made of a protective eggshell, albumen or otherwise known egg white and vitellus or egg yolk. Men have eaten eggs since prehistoric times. All sorts of old paintings and cave cravings show men raising chicken and carrying large baskets of eggs. Therefore, eggs have had a long life as a nutrient and their tasty flavor and health benefits have managed to preserve eggs among people’s largely consumed food.

Let us take a look of the few eating eggs health benefits. They contain significant amounts of vitamins and minerals like vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin B12 as well as iron, potassium, calcium, folic acid and phosphorus. That is quite a composition, don’t you think? The best thing about eggs is that we can find them all year long in all sorts of supermarkets, top shell and at affordable prices.

Maybe the widest known benefit of eggs is that they protect against macular degeneration and they are a real eyesight protection because of the antioxidants found in the egg yolk: zeaxanthin and lutein. These two components protect the eyes from sun radiation and keep them healthy longer.

Eggs are very good in weight-loss diets as they can control your body’s rate of absorbing calories. They are also recommended if you want to maintain your weight. They are not fattening and they help your body control its’ weight.

It seems that eggs also provide us with choline, a substance that helps the brain development and gives us brainpower. Our body does not produce this substance in large amounts, but it is ok, we can take it from eggs. Eating eggs health benefits do no stop here. Eggs are recommended during pregnancy also because they contain choline that is very good for good fetal development. The protein found in eggs is a source of lasting energy and it stops us from consuming unhealthy snacks during the day. The egg yolk contains anti-clotting proteins that prevent blood clots and reduce the risk of heart attacks.

Overall, I think the health benefits of this little oval shaped food are quite numerous. So, do not forget, eat at least two eggs a day!

Aging is an issue that concerns people all over the world. It always has and it always will. Nobody wants to age before their time, and let’s face it getting older sooner than we should is no rollercoaster ride.
<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->
Scientists from all corners of the world have been trying for ages to reverse the aging process and provide longevity to people. There are all kinds of cosmetic products that promise you a long lasting baby face or vitamins that make you live 10 years longer than you are supposed to.

Even from ancient times, people have been trying to maintain their youth and prolong their lives. Let’s not forget the famous Cleopatra, who was well known for taking long milk baths in order to preserve the youth of her skin. However, we are constantly searching for solutions in all the wrong places. Did we ever stop to wonder if not healthy eating and longevity are strongly connected?

Let’s remember our ancestors! They were much healthier and they definitely lived longer if not affected by disease or war. Their food came from their gardens, it was not treated or refined, and they drank the milk directly from their cows, their fruits from the forest and drank their water from the rivers and wells. They worked hard day after day. They lead a healthy way of life if we really take a second to think about it. Their days were for working and their nights were for sleeping and not the other way around.

Nowadays, the word “longevity” has almost entirely lost its’ actual meaning. We refer to longevity mostly in the sense of “life expectancy” which is something completely different. The life expectancy is decreasing with every year, due o unhealthy food, alcohol, smoking, sedentary and all the diseases related to these vices.

Healthy eating and longevity are indeed strongly connected in today’s world. We should try and eat as healthy as we can: vegetables, fruits, fish, and low calorie products. As far as alcohol is concerned, do not abuse it, but also do not completely eliminate it from your eating habits. A glass of wine every now and then is actually good for your heart. Just make sure that it is only a glass, and only once in a while.

Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants which have many positive effects on the body. They are known to represent a “fountain of youth” if consumed daily. Don’t forget to exercise no matter the age. I have a neighbor who daily takes out her bike and goes for a 2 hour ride in order to remain fit. She is 70, looks 50, extremely healthy and energetic.

My longevity family line fills me with hope. My great grandmother died at the age of 93, proving that healthy eating and longevity do have a common point. She lived most of her life in the country side and she was a great fruit lover.

So, don’t lose hope. We can all live long and healthy lives. It’s in our hands.

Cherries are by far my favorite fruit. Ever since I was little, there was a constant struggle for getting more cherries between my brother and my cousins. I must admit that I was never a strawberry fan as most children are; I used to trade them for 2 or 3 extra cherries. When I grew up, things didn’t really change in this matter. I still am a cherry fan but now I’m beginning to learn that there is more to cherries than their sensational and refreshing taste.
<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->
I once heard one of my friends talking about her mother’s new cherry diet. I mean I love cherries, but I can’t imagine eating only cherries all day long and staying energetic. So I asked my friend how her mother does it. She then explained that it si in fact more of a health diet and not a lose-weight diet. S, I asked myself: what is the health benefit from eating cherries?

The answer came right away from several different sources. Cherries are the number one antioxidant fruit. They are actually called the Super Fruit, title wit which I totally agree, especially after finding out more of the Health benefits that cherries provide.

They contain a high level of antioxidants that fights diseases, iron, fiber, vitamin C, beta carotene and potassium. With all these ingredients in their composition, cherries can easily substitute daily food. Even more, I think it would be much healthier if we could eat cherries day after day.

Cherries were originally discovered in Stone Age caves located in Europe. They were spread around Europe by the Romans in their conquests. There are two types of cherries: sour and sweet. It is believed that sour cherries are healthier than sweet cherries because they contain more beta carotene and Vitamin C and have lower calories.

Cherries represent a nutritional punch that can be used to prevent cancer, Alzheimer’s and heart attacks. Besides all the vitamins and healthy substances enumerated above, they also contain gueritin. It is thought to be a powerful and effective anticancer agent. Cherries, consumed often, also fight against premature aging due to the gueritin and isoguritin they contain. And guess what!

Cherries can also help you get a good night sleep. Are you having trouble sleeping? Just eat a bowl of cherries and you will probably sleep all through the night. Melatonin, which is a natural sleeping aid is found in very small quantities in the human body. But cherries have plenty of melatonin to offer. You can tell how powerful a cherry is by its’ color. The deeper the red, the healthier and vitamin loaded is the cherry. So, what is the health benefit from eating cherry? I would say there is no need to ask that question anymore.

Lemon is one of the controversial fruits of our times. Not as popular as cherries, bananas, apples or strawberries because of its bitter taste, lemon has more health benefits that one might imagine.
<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->
I personally like lemon; I eat it every chance I get and I cannot get enough of this sweet-bitter taste! Brought in the area of the Mediterranean Sea by Arabs, it originates in India from the tree called “Citrus Limon”. Romans used this yellow, oval-shaped fruit in their food in order to improve its’ taste and give it favor. Today, lemon is not only used for culinary purposes but also for therapeutically and medical purposes as it contains anti-cancer and antioxidants properties.

The fresh lemon juice is a rich source of Vitamin C which is vital to our body. So the answer to the question “Is eating a lemon healthy for the body?” is definitely yes. It is quite recommended actually.

Lemons are especially rich in citric acid which is an important ingredient for foods giving them a special flavor and a bitter-sweet taste that is mostly appreciated .However important lemon might be in our daily food, the culinary benefits of lemon cannot be compared to the numerous and important health benefits that lemon provides us with.

Today most people drink their water with a slice of lemon in it or with freshly squeezed lemon juice mixed with water. Besides the refreshing feeling we get during a hot summer day, the health benefits of lemon juice are numerous and I will try to resume myself to the mist important of them. Lemon juice has digestive abilities and can be used to relieve belching, bloating and heartburn, which are all symptoms of indigestion. Consumed regularly lemon juice can help you with all sorts of digestive problems and can act as a liver tonic.

Lemon is used also in dental care in order to reduce pain caused by cavities or gum infection. Gum bleeding can be stopped by massaging the gums with lemon juice. Lemon is very good for skin care and its’ rich content of Vitamin C can remedy wrinkles and blackheads and can rejuvenate the skin, acting as an anti-ageing agent. Lemon is found in the composition of many daily skin-creams and its’ effects are visible after only a few usages.

Lemon can control high blood pressure due to its’ high percentage of potassium and can relax your mind and body. It is used most commonly in weight-loss diets in the form of lemon water. It works wonders for people trying to lose weight.

So, is eating a lemon healthy for our body? Do you still need an answer to that question? I think not. Or maybe we should just add that it would be great if you could eat more than one lemon a day. I would do wonders for your health!

Bananas originate in the tropical Southeast Asia and are nowadays cultivated almost in all the countries of the world. They are quite unique because they don’t grow in tress but they come from large plants that are related to the orchid family.
<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->
Bananas represent the widest spread fruit crop in the world. They were brought to the Americas by the Portuguese in the 1500s.Honduras and Guatemala were known as the “Banana Republic”. The top banana producing nations in 2007 were India, China, Philippines, Brazil, Ecuador and Indonesia.

Doctor’s orders are that we should eat five fruits and vegetables each day in order to stay healthy. Bananas would represent a perfect part of this healthy diet as they are rich in vitamin B and contain a lot of fibers, magnesium, vitamin C and potassium. Lucky for us, bananas are now available all year long and have rapidly become over the years, the most popular fruit in the United States of America. They do not contain sodium, cholesterol or fat which might be found in other fruits and vegetables.

I was curious to know more about banana health facts. The only two things I knew about banana benefits were the fact that it is healthy to eat them because eating fruits is healthy and secondly that a squashed banana applied to one’s face and left there for about 10 minutes every day, reduces wrinkles and provides you in time with a smooth baby face. But that’s all I knew until I made this research about banana health facts. The nutritional value of banana as well as the fact that they do not contain fat makes them a perfect snack especially after exercising.

Bananas are a rich source of energy because of the minerals and vitamins they contain. They should be eaten also before exercising as they provide the body with a lot of energy.You can easily replace caffeine with bananas and not expose your body anymore to the damaging effects that caffeine might have. Bananas consist of fructose, sucrose and glucose which represent a real source of energy.

Bananas can be used against depression because they contain an amino acid called tryptophan which helps the mind and body to relax, lifting up your spirit and making you feel happier. Bananas are good for anemia because they contain iron and they also represent an eyesight protection. If consumed regularly they can prevent kidney problems and keep them healthy. The large amounts of potassium protect us against high blood pressure and represent a real source of stress relief.

As you can see, banana health facts are numerous and remember, we have not mentioned all of them. So don’t forget, eat at least a banana every day and you will provide your body with its’ daily source of energy and health!

Over the years many wise people have provided us with memorable quotes, quotes which we have read and memorized and learned from.
<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->
Most famous quotes are based on people’s experiences, their need to share their discoveries with others and our own need to receive an advice, a word of wisdom that might guide us during the course of our life. Not many of you I think ever thought that there is also a category of eating healthy quotes. They are quite many I might add fact which reflects people’s interest over the centuries for a good health and healthy eating habits.

Maybe the most well-known and popular of eating healthy quotes is “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”. To be honest, I do not know who said this but the word spread and I am sure that during a lifetime you have heard this phrase at least once.

It has a simple rime and it is easy to remember and understand. It refers of course to the health benefits of eating fruits, in this case apples. But what about other health quotes? I have made a little research and discovered a lot of them actually; words of wisdom expressed by people during time and that were related to healthy eating, health and eating in general.

This first quote I think comprises the whole idea of the quotes to come. Ralph Walda Emerson said “The first wealth is health”. A simple quote, yet very profound and completely true. What are we to do with health if we do not have health? Health is the greatest gift we can receive and we must tend to it during our whole life. Another eating healthy quote that I found most interesting was expressed by La Rochefoucauld “To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art”. And how true this is! It doesn’t matter how much we eat, it is more important what we eat. Eating intelligently refers to healthy eating that will lead to our longevity and wellbeing.

The Chinese people have always haw words of wisdom to pass on to their successors. Al old Chinese proverb says so “He that takes medicine and neglects diet, wastes the skill of the physician”. It is not enough to follow doctor’s orders as far as medicine is concerned, we must have a healthy and balanced diet. This diet will keep our body healthy together with doctor’s orders.

Let’s not forget the funny food quotes which are most of the time ironic, but have a seaman of truth. George Miller once said: “The trouble with eating Italian food is that five or six days later, you’re hungry again!” That’s quite funny don’t you think?

The main idea is that eating healthy quotes appeared as a result of people’s concern for their health and they are nowadays often used in order to express one’s concern for our daily eating habits.

Coffee is one of the things I can’t live without. I admit it, I wake up in the morning and the first thing that lightens my day is that first sip of fresh, steaming coffee.
<-336x280 Large Rectangle - center->
Every thing feels better all of a sudden. I regain my vitality and begin a new day. I do not know what I would do without my morning coffee. I am not a morning person, I hate waking yup in the morning and this feeling hasn’t gone away during the years. But coffee helps me start fresh every day and puts a smile on my face.

Caffeine is the key ingredient of coffee. I t can also be found in several other drinks such as Coca-Cola, energy drinks, tea , Mountain Dew, diet coke and so on. But what is exactly caffeine? Are there any healthy effects of caffeine or is it just bad for one’s health? This has been a long disputed debate and like in many others, both sides did quite a good job of stating their case.

Caffeine is actually a naturally occurring substance which nowadays is considered the most commonly used psychoactive drug. The word “caffeine” originates in the French word “café” and the German word “kaffee” which both mean coffee. Caffeine is found in the seeds, plants or fruits of more than 63 plants encountered all over the world.

More than 80 percent of the world’s population daily consumes caffeine, under one form or another, so we must ask ourselves what are the healthy effects of caffeine, if any, and is it indeed addictive? Or is it just its’ special flavor that draws us to consume it day after day?

The issue of caffeine addiction is another reason for debate. Those who support the idea that caffeine is addictive have shown the results of a study made on people. When not given the daily amount of caffeine, they experienced depressed moods, tiredness, headaches, difficulty concentrating. On the other hand, caffeine supporters have proven that it is in fact the special taste, flavor and aroma of caffeine drinks that draws us to consume them daily.

But what are the healthy effects of caffeine? Are there any? Caffeine is considered a temporary stimulant to daily fatigue and helps people get through long working days. Studies have shown that caffeine may improve logical thinking and memory.

Coffee, chocolate and tea, which are caffeine-containing drinks, contain antioxidants which benefit the health of the heart and fight against cancer. Asthma patients have been treated using caffeine for years. Nowadays researchers have discovered that coffee drinkers have 80 percent less chances to develop Parkinson’s. Caffeine also reduces the risk of diabetes and colon cancer.

All in all, if consumed in normal quantities, caffeine can do more good to one’s health than it can damage it. So, drink up!
